yea!

I'm Dreamer!!!

Ok just got some results from a EQ evaluation in our leadership class.  It was conducted by a professional chinese company http://www.newleaders.com.cn/
Anyways, so the results say I'm a "dreamer" person.
So I'm high in the "Give yourself" category, medium in "Choose yourself" category and low in the "know yourself" category.
This means that I'm the kind of person who sacrifices himself for others and thinks about others first before himself. (while not really understanding oneself).

It's pretty cool, they give you a whole report about yourself and things you can do to improve yourself. Kinda like that CareerLeader thing.

Oops..

For the first time,  I went to the wrong washroom :) ( i went to the women's washroom by accident)
I think it was an honest mistake. The door was open and the sign indicating "women" was on the door so I kinda missed it. I didn't realize I was in the wrong washroom until I left the washroom ...hehe
In addition, the men's and women's washrooms were on different floors, so that added to the confusion.
For some reason I just thought that this place had Unisex washrooms. They have that in some places in China, right?

anyways....no harm done, didn't get caught and there was no one else inside :)

what to do?!

I dropped a roll of toilet paper in the toilet. Half of it got wet. The water in the toilet water was "fresh", i.e unused.
what should I do with the roll of toilet paper? (it's almost a new roll, it seems like a waste just to throw it out)

such a dilemma!!!

back home

man..I was so close to not being able to get back to Beijing. So here's what happened:
first of all, I almost missed the flight out of taiwan this morning because I looked at the time incorrectly. The lady at the counter said she booked my on the same flight number as previous which I assumed means the same time. Apparently it was one hour early. So this morning after eating breakfast I checked the departures to see if was cancelled or not, it wasn't cancelled but that's when I realized the time. So I basically threw everything into my suitcase and checked and left. Luckily I was able to check in with time to spare. Of course ends up that the flight is delayed.

So this is the first time I've flown China Airlines. I must say they were pretty good on the way to Taiwan. No problems at all. Unfortunately they messed things up on the flight to HK. The plane had arrived like half-hour before takeoff yet they said the plane arrived late so the flight would be delayed...kinda weird. So we boarded, I was pretty tired and decided to take a nap. After about an hour, I woke up and saw that we didn't even take off yet!! I couldn't believe, 2 hours after boarding we still hadn't left and no word on why. Then the guy sitting next to me started to get really angry, he wanted an explanation of what the heck was going on. He eventually started yelling for the captain. "Captain!!, Captain!!!"
And finally we here them report that because people were going to miss their connecting flight that they decided to let them off and therefore they needed to find their luggage, hence the delay. Honestly I think that's a BS excuse. You really can't delay 100+ passengers because one person suddenly thinks he's going to miss his connecting flight. I'm disappointed in China airlines :(
I'll have to reconsider China Airlines next time.

So i finally arrive in HK and i had to go on standby for a flight to beijing since i wasn't able to confirm with the airline. So me and about 5 others were standing there waiting for a flight to BJ. Fortunately I think all of us were able to get a flight to BJ. Of course we had to run the gate because the flight was about to take off...didn't help that the gate was super far, luckily customs and security went really quick.
anyways...finally back in BJ. I must say, customs at Bj airport has improved quite a bit. I only had to wait a few minutes and I was done!!!

home sweet home. :)

these are the stupid things I think about when I can't sleep at night...

Ok..so I had the toughest time trying to sleep the other night at my uncle's house, could be the heat, the hard floor?…I actually I don’t think I got any sleep, maybe an hour? The rest of the time I spent rolling around on the floor.  I guess I can thank the hotel’s super soft bed for making me unable to get accustomed to sleeping on the hard floor. So it seems that during these nights when I can’t sleep my mind goes crazy and starts thinking of the most totally random thoughts. I guess sometimes it’s when I get my best ideas too J

So let’s try to get a few of those wonderful ideas on paper. First one:

I think I’ve mentioned this one before, but why do people get hot and start sweating at around 30C when our body temperature is 37C? ok, fine, so we’re wearing clothes. So we’re saying that if we sat naked in a 37C room we wouldn’t feel hot and start to sweat? Hmm..I would challenge that :0

Ok next idea.

How did pigs and cows become domesticated animals? (is that what they’re called?, animals that we raise for just food and could no longer survive in the wild?)

If evolution were true, how did a cow or a pig ever survive in the wild long enough for man to domesticate it?

First off, pigs are pink and cows are white and black. I guess a pig would be able to camouflage itself in a ….field of pink flowers? In a field full of other pigs?, now what about a cow? I suppose they can hide in the snow with the penguins and polar bears? I dunno, evolution somehow let these two guys get by.

I could imagine, humans trying choose which animals to domesticate.

Hunter 1: “hey let’s pick the laziest and most defenseless animals in the jungle and help them multiple so they can be food later”,

Hunter 2: “oh wait, but won’t animals that exercise more taste better?”,

hunter 1: “well, that would take more work and we’re kinda lazy too, so we don’t want to have to keep an eye on them all the time to make sure they don’t run away”,

hunter 2: “oh, so that’s why eat chickens. Because they can’t fly away. Smart.”

"Now fine, ok, cows are big so they have a lot of meat to eat, so why pick pigs? Because they have a lot of babies? Why not something bigger like a rhino? Or a elephant? Or a Hippo? Let’s domesticate them and then we have meat to last us for days.”

Hunter 1: “oh well, that’s too much meat, we would have to store it, and we’re not smart enough to be able to do that yet. Besides those animals are stronger than us, if we breed too many of them, they may take over the world instead of us humans. You can never be too careful”

Ok this is probably going into the 4th hour of sleeplessness:

Why is that policeman in UK choose to use night sticks (警棍)?  Why stop there? Maybe they should arm the police force with an entire arsenal of weapons? (of course nothing lethal like guns) I could just imagine it,

Policeman 1:”Ya, I’d like the carbon fibre staff (the long stick)”,

Policeman 2: “gimme the nunchakus with carbon fibre handles and titanium chain.”

Wouldn’t it be cool?, u have an entire police force trained in different weapons. It would definitely make a show like “COPS” a lot more interesting J

oh another interesting thing..

So we went on a short tour of taipei. (booked). There were these 3 other vietnamese guys and 1 american. So i was talking to the american, he's a professor at a univ. in NY and was doing some online class with a school in Taiwan. I thought it was quite interesting. He was in taiwan to get some face time with the students but regularly he teached everything online. So he was telling me about is step-sister. She's a VP for finance at Polo Ralph Lauren, I thought that was cool. If only I cared about finance and was willing to work in NY would this contact been of any use to me :)

in "the other" part of China :)

So I got off the plane and stepped onto Taiwan soil. Ok so I dunno if its a bad thing but soon as I walked into the airport it smelled like taiwan. I think it's that warm humid old smell. BJ kinda has that old dry smell and HK didn't really have any smell because the AC was turned onto full blast!! (so cold)

Anyways, I'm starting to get a certain feel for Taiwan (or at least taipei). It's starting to feel a bit like korea. The girls are all dressing up fashionable but the guys are kinda little behind in the fashion trends :D So the other day I was complaining about the weather. I guess it's not quite the weather, it's actually quite nice, a little humid but clear skies and super sunny. But the thing I hate is when u have to walk in and out of places. The AC is always turned on so high inside stores that it's so much colder inside than outside. So easy to get sick :(

so ya, I'm been going through a dilemma, I'm not sure if I should speak taiwanese or Mandarin. It was so difficult to sleep on the subway, my mind kept listening to people talk, hoping to improve my chinese :) (either taiwanese or Mandarin). Actually I find that more people are talking taiwanese here these days,  I thought people in Taipei mostly spoke mandarin? Ya, i think it's actually easier for me to understand Taiwan chinese accent, although i never noticed it till now that everyone does not pronounce very well. I never even noticed that my mom talks that way till now. I can thank a special someone for pointing that out to me :D

oh another funny thing, I was wearing my black Tsinghua-MIT t-shirt the other day and my Dad was telling me not to wear it. Why? because the back of the t-shirt there's a picture of China and Taiwan is also included as part of China. He said that people in taiwan may not like this shirt. Hmm...i wonder if it's true? I never noticed that taiwan was included. I wonder if MIT considered this when they made it?

hehe....ok..time to go to bed!
